20th-ranked Northwestern had its record-breaking season come to an end with a 2-0 loss to Bacone College (Okla.) in an elimination game played at the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round in Shawnee, Okla.
Northwestern ends the season with a 42-13 record, setting the record for wins in a single season.
The Red Raiders totaled six hits, five singles and a double, against Bacone righthander Michael Kirkland, who improved his record to 4-2 on the year. Kirkland walked one and struck out five. It was the second time that Northwestern was shutout this season.Isaac Horigan was perfect in three innings of relief, striking out four.
Davis Bloemendaal and Erik Widener led the NWC offense with two hits each. Bloemendaal had a double while both Mitch Peschon and Tony Schultz each hit a single.
This marks the final game for the nine seniors: Davis Bloemendaal, Ryan Brasser, Cody Groskreutz, Micah Linn, Nikko Melonas, Matt Piocos, Brett Rolls, Tyler Stuerman and Erik Widener.
