Located in Crete, NE, Doane College is a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

Northwestern opens up the GPAC season this weekend at Doane on Friday and at Hastings on Saturday. The Red Raiders are currently 18-5 and ranked #18 in the NAIA while Doane is 17-7 and is receiving votes. Hastings is currently 6-12, the Broncos play Dordt on Friday before facing the Red Raiders Saturday.

Scouting Doane:

RV Doane (17-7) has gone 6-4 in their last ten games and will be playing their first games since returning from Arizona nearly a week ago. The Tigers are receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll and are ranked in the top 20 nationally in both team batting average (0.320, 15th) and team earned run average (2.90, 18th). Doane is currently 23rd in the NAIA in runs per game at 6.75. Kevin Clausen leads the team with a 0.393 batting average, 25 runs scored, ten doubles, two home runs, and 24 RBI. Ethan Schroeder has scored 21 runs and is hitting 0.356. Dylan Matthews is hitting 0.345. Tyler Wilson has a team high eight stolen bases and is hitting 0.333. Alex Arkfeld (0.312) is second on the team with 20 RBI. 

Elliott Engle paces the Tiger pitching staff with a 0.72 ERA, sixth best in the NAIA. Engle is currently 4-1 in five starts. He has allowed 19 hits and struck out 24 in 25 innings this season. Brandon Stennis and Austin Caspersen are tied with Engle for the team lead with five starts. Stennis (3-1) has 33 strikeouts and a 3.07 ERA in 29.1 innings while Caspersen (4-1) has a 3.45 ERA. Rolando Celis (0-0, 1.93) has made five saves this season and is 13th in the NAIA.

Scouting Northwestern: 

#18 The Red Raiders (18-5) have gone 8-2 in their last ten games including a split with Viterbo last Friday. Northwestern is currently 22nd in the NAIA in team batting average at 0.315 and is 19th in stugging percentage at 0.446. Northwestern is averaging 6.65 runs per game, which is 32nd in the NAIA. Tony Schultz has a team high 0.432 average and is 13th in the NAIA in batting average. Skyler Wheeler (0.392) leads the team with ten doubles and 31 hits while Micah Linn (0.289) and Cody Groskreutz (0.333) have both scored a Raider best 22 runs. Erik Widener (0.357) is the other Red Raider above 0.300 this season. Groskreutz has a team high 25 RBI and four triples while Mitch Peschon (0.290) has a team high four home runs and ten stolen bases. 

Reigning GPAC Pitcher of the Year Tyler Stuerman (2-0, 2 saves) leads the Raider staff with a 2.29 ERA. Ryan Brasser (2-0) has a 2.31 ERA in four starts, Josh Turner (4-0, 1 save) has a 2.92 ERA in seven appearances/four starts. Matt Piocos (4-2, 3.48 ERA) has a team high six starts and 33.2 innings. Isaac Horigan (2-1, 3.55 ERA) has made six appearances and four starts. Northwestern has a team ERA of 4.68 in 163.1 innings. The Raiders have allowed a 0.282 batting average.
