The Red Raider baseball travels to Topeka, Kansas this weekend to take on Avila and Winnipeg on Friday and Presentation in a doubleheader on Saturday. The Red Raiders went 1-3 on opening weekend. Avila enters with a 3-1 record, Winnipeg has not played yet in 2014, and Presentation played countable games in the fall of 2013 and enters with a 0-8 record.

In their eight fall games, Drew Sanders led the team with a 0.395 batting average, four doubles, five stolen bases, and eight RBI. Albert Castro was also above 0.300 hitting 0.360 this fall. Presentation hit 0.224 as a team with 29 runs scored.
On the mound, Chad Ellingson led the team with 18 innings and a 3.00 ERA in three starts. The Saints had an ERA of 7.83 and allowed a batting average of 0.307. Dylan Segula made three starts and threw 16 innings, posting an ERA of 9.56.
The Red Raiders hit 0.270 in the first weekend, scoring 18 runs in four games. Skyler Wheeler led the team with a 0.455 AVG and tied with Mitch Peschon for the team lead with three RBI. Peschon had two home-runs in the first four games and led the team with three walks.
Josh Turner led the Raider pitching staff throwing four shut-out innings in his first start and win of 2014. Turner threw four innings and had a team high nine strikeouts. Ryan Brasser struck out eight in six innings and got a no decision in his first start. Matt Piocos allowed two earned runs in six innings and got stuck with a loss in the third game last weekend while Isaac Horigan got a no decision after throwing four innings and allowing four runs. The Raider pitching staff currently has a 5.47 ERA and opponents have a 0.276 AVG.
Following the action this weekend Northwestern will travel to Ottawa, Kansas for a doubleheader on March 1st vs. Ottawa before flying to Arizona for ten games between March 2nd and March 10th.
