Mount Marty at Northwestern

Mount Marty and Northwestern split their GPAC doubleheader on Monday night, with Northwestern winning game one 6-1 and Mt. Marty winning game two 6-3.  Northwestern moved to 23-11 overall and is 16-4 in the GPAC while the Lancers improved to 17-21 overall and 9-11 in the GPAC.

In game one, Northwestern scored six runs on five hits and starter Mihai Burlea scattered five hits and allowed one run in the victory.  Burlea improved to a GPAC best 7-2 on the season while Lancer starter Nick Wenande fell to 1-2.  Austin Malone had a double, drove in a run, and scored, Jake Jansen drove in two runners and had one hit, freshman Kent Drickey had a hit and scored twice, and Mike Zoellner was 1-2 with a RBI.  Senior catcher Codie Zeutenhorst hit a solo home-run to lead off the sixth inning.

In game two, Mt. Marty got to starter Mike Zoellner for three runs in the first two innings and took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the second.  Northwestern answered with a run in the second when Matt Gray hit a ground ball up the middle scoring Kent Drickey, who had singled.  Zoellner locked down the Lancers the rest of regulation recording nine strikeouts and allowing five hits.  Northwestern tied the score in the fifth on a Jake Jansen ground out scoring Austin Malone and a 2-out hit by Joe Heitritter scoring Grant Wall.  Mt. Marty then turned to staff ace Rand Thygeson to shut the door on the Raiders while Northwestern went to Drew Nonnemacher.  Nonnemacher pitched a scoreless eighth but gave up three runs, two earned, in the ninth.  Nonnemacher fell to 2-1 on the season.  Malone was 1-4 with a run scored, Brad Payne was 2-5 with a double and a run scored, Grant Wall was 1-4, Joe Heitritter was 1-4 with a RBI, Kent Drickey was 1-4 with a run scored, and Clint Gingerich was 2-3.

Northwestern faces Dakota State at 6:30 in one-nine inning game on Wednesday night before traveling to Sioux City, Iowa for a key GPAC doubleheader at 2:00 on Thursday.
