Matthew Negaard (Sioux City, Iowa) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College beginning in the fall of 2008.

Negaard, the son of Kevin and Gail, is a 5’9” infielder for Sioux city North.   In his career Negaard has hit .333 in 165 at bats, including 12 doubles and 35 walks while earning three letters for the North Stars.  Negaard was named an All-Missouri River Conference honorable mention last season and has twice been an Academic All-Conference selection.  In the summer of 2006 Negaard won the Lincoln Wacker Memorial Coaches Award.  In 2007 Sioux City North finished the season 31-8 under head coach Brian Drent and spent most of the season ranked in the top 10 in class 4A.

Negaard, a left handed batter, plans to major in Biology/Pre-Medicine at Northwestern.

“Matt is a great addition, not only for our baseball team, but also Northwestern and the Orange City community.  He comes to us with a good amount of success at a high level of baseball in this state and fits the description of what a student-athlete should look like," said Coach Wede.  "Matt will no doubt add to the quality student athletes we currently have on our team, but will also help us continue to put productive players on the field."
