Four Raider Baseball Players Earn First Team All-GPAC

Seniors Mihai Burlea and Codie Zeutenhorst and juniors Jake Jansen and Grant Wall were named to the 2008 All-GPAC First Team today for Northwestern, who won the GPAC with an 18-6 record. Northwestern is 26-16 overall and will be the #2 seed in the NAIA Region III Tournament later this week.

Burlea (Botosani, Romania) is 8-3 with a 3.18 ERA and has 66 strikeouts.  Burlea was 5-1 in GPAC play with one no decision.  Zeutenhorst (Maurice, Iowa) hit .330 on the season with a team high six home-runs and 31 RBI.  Zeutenhorst threw out 8 of 11 base stealers in GPAC play and runners were 12/30 during the regular season with Zeutenhorst behind the plate.  Zeutenhorst was the only Red Raider named to the GPAC Gold Glove Team.

Jansen is hitting .394 for Northwestern, including 16 extra-base hits while Wall leads the team with a .411 batting average.  Wall also has a team high 13 doubles and has scored 36 runs with 11 stolen bases.

Three Raiders were named to the All-GPAC Second Team; senior OF Joe Heitritter (Boyden, Iowa), sophomore 3B Brad Payne (Alta, Iowa), and freshman P Mike Zoellner (San Diego, Calif.).  Heitritter has scored a team high 38 runs and is the only Raider to start and/or play in every game this season, he is hitting .370.  Payne is hitting .356 this season and has scored 21 runs.  Zoellner is 4-1 in seven starts and has a 3.38 ERA, he went undefeated in GPAC play with a 4-0 record.

Senior P Joe Grady (Omaha, Neb.) and juniors P Trevor Kuiper (Sheldon, Iowa) and 2B Austin Malone (San Diego, Calif.) were named honorable mention selections.  Grady is 5-4 with a 3.88 ERA in 55 innings while Kuiper is 5-2 with a 4.86 ERA in 56 innings.  Malone, a three time honorable mention, is hitting .315 with 12 doubles and 31 runs scored.
