Northwestern (20-13) defeated Mount Marty (22-11) Tuesday night in a non-conference nine inning game by the score of 11-5. The Red Raiders picked up 11 hits in the game and broke the game open with a seven run third inning.
Seven different Red Raiders had hits, including Steve Englund, Mike Shields, Levi Miller, and Chris Butler, who all had two hits in the game. Englund scored three runs to lead the team while Shields and Miller each scored twice. Matt Gray, Taylor Morris, Corey Van Gorp, and Chris Butler each scored once. Van Gorp lead the team with two RBI. Englund, Matt Negaard, Curt Bomgaars, Chuck Stith, Shields, Miller, and Butler each had one RBI. Northwestern also stole seven bases in the game, two each by Englund and Bomgaars and one by Morris, Miller, and Gray.
Drew Nonnemacher started on the mound and earned the win, throwing two innings allowing four hits and three runs. Chase Rozeboom relieved Nonnemacher and threw one inning and gave up two hits and a run. Collin Gingerich pitched four innings and gave up five hits and a run. Noah Bohlmann pitched the eighth and ninth innings and gave up one hit and struck out two Lancers.
Northwestern resumes GPAC play on Friday as they travel to Fremont, Nebr. to take on Midland Lutheran College in a 4:30 doubleheader. The Red Raiders will host Dana on Saturday, first pitch of the doubleheader will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
