Jared Kirkeby (Brandon Valley, S.D.) has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Northwestern College beginning in the fall of 2008.
Kirkeby, the son of Al and Wilma, is a 5-10 outfielder/pitcher for Brandon Valley H.S. In his junior season Kirkeby hit .282 in 237 at bats, including 4 doubles while earning three letters for coach Lance Garbers. Kirkeby was also 8-9 on the mound with a 2.48 ERA in 124 innings of work while striking out 119 batters. Kirkeby was named to the 2006 State VFW All-Star team as a sophomore and is a YMCA Character Counts Athlete.
Kirkeby plans to major in elementary education at Northwestern.
Commented coach Wede, "Jared will come to us with a lot of pitching experience and will be competitive for us immediately. He will give us a much needed left handed option out of the bullpen and will push our starters for a starting role in the future. I believe Jared is the type of student-athlete that will thrive at Northwestern on and off the field."
